Violence against women is a bipartisan issue. It’s not about “feminism” or Democrats or Republicans. It’s about respect for other human beings. Violence against women is bullying.
Shatter the silence. Shatter the long list of misperceptions. Both lead to more violence due to a false sense of security. Respect. Equality. Safety.
I’m thankful that we live in a country where…..
Bystander intervention is a very important part of stopping a crime before it ever occurs. Violence is never random. Sexual violence is NEVER random. Even in a case that appears to be a “random” home invasion, there was always a previous event, or a series of events, that led the perpetrator to commit that particular criminal act. As a society, we are much quicker to analyze, and scrutinize, a victim’s actions before the crime, as opposed to what led…..
Today is March 5th, a significant date in “Broken Sand Dollar.” My dad passed away on March 5th, 2007. Exactly five years later in 2012, on the anniversary of his death, I found a perfectly shaped round sand dollar near the sand dunes at Wrightsville Beach. It’s highly unusual to find an unbroken sand dollar that far into dry sand. Sand dollars are fragile, and they usually get broken after washing that far ashore. Many believe that a sand…..
In the USA, we’re fortunate to live in a country with Freedom of Speech. For that I’m grateful. However, in the past year, we’ve had some very unhealthy public disagreements – unhealthy because they led to violence, or threats of violence. These acts of violence are also hypocritical, particularly by those who claim they’re “fighting for peace,” or “against bullying.” The USA is also uniquely special because we have a long tradition of peacefully transferring power between our highest political…..
Silence will NOT prevail! It is now being reported that two young women attending Stanford University were offered monetary settlements to withdraw their Title IX complaints for sexual assaults on campus. (This is not related to Brock Turner’s popular case). Stanford University is NOT denying these claims, but instead made a statement that the information should be considered confidential. The first young woman, Leah Francis was offered $60,000 to cover medical expenses and counseling, if she would withdraw her complaint……
Results of this past week’s presidential election may have more to do with power, and past abuses of it, than either candidate. A silent majority voted against the existing political establishment. The fact that the American people chose a President who has never served any political office is a message to Washington: Abuse of power in political office will not be tolerated. Power, and the abuse of it, is also a very important theme throughout “Broken Sand Dollar.” I…..
Welcome. My name is Nicole Saint-Clair, author of Broken Sand Dollar.
I’ll be using this blog to interact with you about Broken Sand Dollar, expanding on some of the important topics related to my book, as well as current events. This is sensitive subject matter, and my hope is that our society will allow us to have more meaningful constructive discussions about sexual violence in its many different forms. More voices will result in better education, but more importantly, others…..
